College of Ag Sciences students receive internship awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Ten students in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences recently received 2010 Internship Awards from the college's Alumni Society.

The awards, which included $750 stipends, were given based on students' performance during the internship, their written final reports about their experiences and evaluations offered by internship supervisors.

The winners were:

--Kristen Annunziata, of Middletown, N.J. An animal sciences major, Annunziata interned with Centre Wildlife Care in Port Matilda. She is a graduate of Middletown High School South.

--Sarah Caldwell, of Beaver Falls. An agribusiness management major, Caldwell interned with the Center for Dairy Excellence in Harrisburg. She is a graduate of Riverside High School.

--Benjamin Cashell, of Chambersburg. An animal sciences major, Cashell interned with the Mason Dixon Farm in Gettysburg. He is a graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School.

--John H. Frantz, of Waynesboro. An animal sciences major, Frantz interned with Capital Area Resource Conservation and Development in Carlisle. He is a graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School.

--Amy Hinkle, of Belle Center, Ohio. A horticulture major, Hinkle interned with Bear Creek Farms Inc. in Stillwater, Okla. She is a graduate of Benjamin Logan High School.

--Melissa Miller, of Strasburg. A horticulture major, Miller interned at the Cedar Meadow Farm in Holtwood. She is a graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School.

--Sharon Ng, of Elmhurst, N.Y. An animal sciences major, Ng interned with the Wildlife Conservation Society in Brooklyn, N.Y. She is a graduate of John Bowne High School.

--Khanh Nguyen, of Harrisburg. An agroecology major, Nguyen interned with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service in Juniata. She is a graduate of Harrisburg High School.

--Derek Pruyne, of Athens. A turfgrass science major, Pruyne interned with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in Moosic. He is a graduate of Athens Area High School.

--Kayla White, of Columbia Cross Roads. An agribusiness management major, White interned with Hatfield Country View Family Farms in her home town. She is a graduate of Troy Senior High School.
