University Park, Pa. – Mandy Reinig, Education Abroad adviser at Penn State Altoona, is the staff recipient of the 2011 W. LaMarr Kopp International Achievement Award.

The award, established in 1995, recognizes faculty and staff members who have contributed significantly to the advancement of the international missions of the University. It is named for the late deputy vice president for international programs.

At Penn State Altoona, Reinig has established an effective web presence for the Altoona Study Abroad Office and has successfully recruited both faculty and students to these activities. She also has developed marketing efforts to raise the profile of international education on campus and achieve the University goal of 20 percent of graduates having significant international experience prior to receiving their degrees.

Returning to graduate school to earn a second master's degree in English as a Second Language (ESL), she works with both international and immigrant students as a mentor and as an ESL instructor. She continues to expand her cultural knowledge and language skills through participation in language immersion programs abroad, and integrates her work with faculty, students and international travel with her research.

Reinig has received several grants, presented papers and published on several facets of the international experience. She holds a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Penn State and a master's degree in international affairs from Ohio University.
