Spring choir performances of 'British & American Music'

April 02, 2012

Penn State Behrend's Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will trace the evolution of English-language choral music at their upcoming spring concerts. The choirs’ “British & American Music” program will be sung at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14, in the campus' Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.

Under the direction of Jason Bishop, lecturer in music, the students will perform works by Tudor-era English composer Thomas Tallis; William Billings, one of the country’s earliest native-born composers; and modern-era American artists Randall Thompson, Norman Dello Joio and Moses Hogan. In addition, guest artist Sarah Kahl will perform solo piano works by Aaron Copland and Samuel Barber, and join violinist Rich Basler and soprano Caitlin Henning for Eric Whitacre’s “Five Hebrew Love Songs.”

Tickets are $5 general admissions, $3 for faculty and staff and free for Penn State Behrend students. Tickets may be purchased at the door, in advance at the Student Activities Desk in the Reed Union Building, or by calling 814-898-6242.
