Lead researcher Eric Long, as a Penn State graduate student more than 15 years ago, untangles a doe caught in a net during deer dispersal research. For this study, 381 juvenile males and 245 juvenile females were equipped with either VHF radio transmitters or GPS transmitters to track their dispersal movement.
