Anonymous donors establish $10M nursing scholarship

A Penn State donor couple has made a gift of $5 million to endow a scholarship for students with financial need in the College of Nursing. It is the largest single gift received by the college in its six-year history. The University will match the gift 1:1 through a recently concluded Open Doors matching program, bringing the scholarship endowment total to $10 million.  Full story

Alumni honor former professor with graduate award endowment

For many students, there is a class or subject they are nervous to take. Sometimes, however, it is in those classes that a student finds an inspirational teacher — a teacher who makes learning what may be a difficult subject a joy to learn. For alumni Louis Swanson and Carol Gertsch, that subject was statistics, and the teacher was Fern “Bunny” Willits, professor emerita in the Department of Agricultural Economics, Sociology, and Education.  Full story

Pennsylvania native creates scholarship to honor late brother

Dolores Hart Druckenmiller, a Pennsylvania native and current California resident, has established a scholarship that will honor her late brother, Berne C. Hart, while providing support for graduates of Biglerville High School in Adams County. Created with a gift of $1 million, the Berne C. Hart Scholarship will benefit graduates of their childhood alma mater who demonstrate financial need.  Full story
