Tech checklist for Penn State's return to campus
After many months of working and studying from home, Penn Staters are gearing up for this fall's return to campus. To help the transition go smoothly, information technology teams across the University have collaborated on the following checklist.

Kaltura-Zoom integration upgrade to take place Aug. 16
On Aug. 16, Penn State IT will be upgrading the integration with Kaltura and Zoom. This upgrade will enhance the overall performance and collaboration between these two services, allowing for improved uploading of all Zoom recordings to Kaltura. Also, Zoom meetings scheduled in Canvas will automatically publish recordings to the Canvas course's Media Gallery.

Penn Staters create Turf Threat Tracker weather app to aid golf industry
Four meteorology professionals with ties to Penn State recently launched T3: Turf Threat Tracker, an app-based weather modeling tool designed for turf management experts created. Within the past few months, more than 100 golf courses have signed up for their free trial. Among their clients are about a dozen of the top 100 golf courses in the United States and Canada and four of the top 10.

Technical teaching assistants program now accepting requests for fall 2021
For fall 2021, the technical teaching assistants program will expand its services to better aid teaching and learning as the University transitions to primarily in-person instruction.

Honeypot security technique can also stop attacks in natural language processing
Using a learning-based method, an attacker can fool online fake news detectors and spam filters, which could mean more fake news appearing in your social media feed or spam reaching your email inbox. College of Information Sciences and Technology researchers have developed a machine learning framework that can proactively defend against these attacks.

Leaders needed for new Faculty Learning Communities
Penn State faculty are invited to lead Faculty Learning Communities, peer groups exploring how technology, combined with sound pedagogy, can improve teaching and learning.

Minitab statistical software is now only available on the cloud
Minitab statistical software will no longer support desktop installations of Minitab and Minitab Express after Aug. 31. Penn State will move to the Minitab Web App, the cloud-based version of the software, effective for the fall 2021 semester. All faculty and students who use Minitab software for coursework will need to order the Minitab Web App. The app will also replace desktop versions of the software on WebApps, WebLabs and all lab installations.

Applications open for GivingTuesday 2021
Applications are now open for all Penn State campuses, colleges, programs and alumni groups interested in hosting a fundraising campaign during Penn State's GivingTuesday celebration.
