COVID-19 symptom checker available for students in Penn State Go app
Starting Aug. 10, all Penn State students are asked to complete a daily symptom checker to self-screen for potential COVID-19 symptoms before returning to campus. Students enrolled for in-person courses or scheduled to be present at on-campus facilities will need to complete the daily student COVID-19 symptom checker through the Penn State Go app.

New video shares best practices for safe return to campus
The University has released a new PPE Policy, Classroom Management and Safety video to promote a safe return to Penn State's classrooms on Aug. 24.

In order to maintain a safe learning and working environment for Penn State students and employees alike this fall, the Return to Campus Task Group has issued guidance related to expectations for student behavior and safety compliance when visiting University offices.

In preparation for the return of employees and students to Penn State's campuses for the fall semester, comprehensive safety guidelines have been developed and will be strictly enforced in the interest of the health and safety of the University community.

Penn State Coronavirus Compact available for students in LionPATH
As part of pre-arrival requirements for returning to campus and communities this fall semester, all undergraduate and graduate students are required to agree to the Penn State Coronavirus Compact, which is now available in LionPATH. The compact covers critical health and safety topics such as COVID-19 testing and contact tracing, face masks, social distancing and more.

Penn State Go: COVID-19 symptom checker part of new faculty/staff experience
Starting Aug. 6, a faculty and staff COVID-19 symptom checker will go live as part of a new employee-centered experience in the Penn State Go app. In addition to the symptom checker, the new Faculty and Staff Experience will feature access to Penn State email, Canvas Teacher, a link to Workday, additional coronavirus resources, and much more.

Penn State launches new public health campaign
Penn State has launched an integrated effort to remind faculty, staff and students at all campuses and in adjacent communities of the importance of doing their part to limit the spread of COVID-19. "Mask Up or Pack Up" is a research-based campaign that is also launched in State College to create a seamless message for students and other members of the community.

Pre-arrival testing for students underway
This week, approximately 24,000 Penn State students from identified areas with a higher prevalence of coronavirus and those who will be on the front lines to welcome and work with students will be receiving at-home saliva COVID-19 testing kits to be taken before arrival on Penn State campuses. The remainder of the 30,000 tests that were discussed in the July 30 town hall will be given to faculty and staff who are similarly situated in areas with higher virus infection rates or work closely with students.

Brandywine course inspires journalism graduate's Schreyer Honors thesis
The correlation between journalism and child development may seem minimal to many, but that's exactly what Penn State graduate Annie Ward researched for her Schreyer Honors College thesis while earning her bachelor's degree in journalism.

Professors publish paper on gender and racial bias in physics textbooks
Penn State Brandywine faculty members Timothy Lawlor, associate professor of physics and astrophysics, and Timothy Niiler, associate teaching professor of physics, recently published a paper titled "Physics Textbooks from 1960-2016: A History of Gender and Racial Bias."

Great Valley students excel in Nittany AI Challenge
Two teams of Great Valley students advanced to the second phase of the Nittany AI Challenge, with one receiving funding for the final round. The teams expand on their classroom knowledge by using cutting-edge AI technologies.

Penn State alumni launch nonprofit to rebuild Black-owned businesses
Two women from the Penn State Class of 2019 who attended the Abington campus have, so far, raised more than $200,000 to support Black-owned businesses impacted by the economic downturn and the unrest following the death of George Floyd.

Last academic year, four Penn State instructors worked with teams from Teaching and Learning with Technology (TLT) to enhance the spaces where students learn. With preparations underway for the new academic year, the most recent cohort of TLT Faculty Fellows; Ed Glantz, Siu Ling (Pansy) Leung, Pierce Salguero and Priya Sharma can share lessons learned from their work.
