Story: Catching up with Penn State Alumni Association President Randy Houston
Randy Houston began his term as the 81st president of the Penn State Alumni Association back in July, with Jan. 1 being the six-month mark in his role. Since then, Houston has traveled across the country representing the Alumni Association at away game tailgates for Penn State football and he's also returned to Happy Valley for numerous other programs and events.

Penn State THON has announced its partnership with the Penn State Alumni Association for the pep rally during THON Weekend 2020, set for Feb. 21-23, highlighted by another arena White Out.

President's Concert registration ending next month
Penn State President Eric Barron will host the 2020 President's Concert on Feb. 18 in New York City. The annual event is sponsored jointly by the Penn State Alumni Association and the School of Music, with a reception for alumni and friends preceding the concert.

Board of Trustees alumni nominations open through Feb. 25
The election process for the Penn State Board of Trustees starts when nomination ballots will begin being sent on Wednesday (Jan. 15) to all Penn State alumni who have a valid email address on file with the University. Nominations will be accepted through 5 p.m. Eastern time on Monday, Feb. 25.

Feb. 21 Board of Trustees meeting to be livestreamed
The Penn State Board of Trustees will hold its next public meeting Feb. 20-21 at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center at University Park. The full board will meet at 1 p.m. on Feb. 21. The meeting will be streamed live online at http://wpsu.org/trustees/.

Penn State World Campus is recognized in six top-10 rankings of U.S. News and World Report's 2020 Best Online Programs. U.S. News also ranked Penn State World Campus in six categories of its Best Online Programs for Veterans lists.

Scientists examine potential economic impact of spotted lanternfly in Pa.
If not contained, the spotted lanternfly potentially could drain Pennsylvania's economy of at least $324 million annually and cause the loss of about 2,800 jobs, according to a study carried out by economists in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences.

Distinguished professor of ichthyology making 50th trip to Africa to study fish
When Jay Stauffer made his first trip to Lake Malawi in 1983, just before joining the faculty in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences, he never dreamed that the trip would be the genesis of his career focus and that it would yield valuable partnerships for the University.

Award fund established to honor late electrical engineering alumnus, professor
The A. J. Ferraro Graduate Research Award in the Department of Electrical Engineering will become an endowed award, thanks to a gift from Carol M. Ferraro in honor of her late husband, Anthony J. Ferraro, an alumnus and professor emeritus at Penn State. The fund originally was established in 2012 as a nonendowed award with gifts from individuals honoring Anthony Ferraro's retirement.

Weight-loss plan developed at Penn State ties for No. 2 ranking
Volumetrics, a diet plan developed by Penn State Professor of Nutrition Barbara Rolls, has tied for the No. 2 weight-loss plan in this year's U.S. News and World Report's "Best Diets."
