Bill Ellis currently teaches classes online for Penn State World Campus. He is professor emeritus of English and American Studies at Penn State, where he taught a variety of classes in basic writing, technical writing, business writing, mythology, folklore studies, the Bible as literature, occult literature and American literature, from July 1984 to June 2009.

Ellis has served as president of the International Society for Contemporary Legend Research and of the Folk Narrative Section and Children's Folklore Section of the American Folklore Society.

His interests are varied and include developmental writing, internet/intranet/web technology, mythology and religion, contemporary folklore, Japanese folklore and popular culture.
