Penn State York will honor its student athletes at the annual Sports Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 18. The banquet will take place on the stage at the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center (The Pullo Center) on campus.
Penn State New Kensington athletics updates for the week of Sept. 10
Mark Bodenschatz, associate director of the Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute, has been invited to assist Interpol — the world’s largest police organization — to help secure the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The quadrennial international men’s soccer championship is scheduled to be held Nov. 21 to Dec. 18, 2022, in Qatar and will be the first World Cup hosted in the Middle East.
Penn State York student-athletes, Hannah Price, women’s volleyball, and Francyou Desse, soccer, were named the winners of the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award given by the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC). Awards are presented to athletes at each campus.
In a hard-fought battle, Penn State York was unable to stay alive in the Penn State University Athletic Conference soccer playoffs, falling to Penn State New Kensington 2-1 at home Oct. 25 in the conference quarterfinals. Tim Weikert took his team to the playoffs in just his second year as head coach.

Josh Kolarac recently completed his junior year at Penn State Behrend, where he has been a standout, both on the soccer field and in the newsroom. He has started as a defender the past two seasons for the Behrend men’s soccer team and has served as editor-in-chief of the Behrend Beacon, the college’s weekly student newspaper.
With one year at Penn State under her belt, Marissa Sheva feels confident and relaxed at juggling academics with her role as a member of both the women’s soccer and track and field teams. Scheduling isn’t easy, but Sheva, a sophomore majoring in security and risk analysis, has adjusted to her busy campus life and is succeeding on the field and in the classroom.

While known most for her success on the soccer field, lesser known is Raquel "Rocky" Rodriguez’s plan to build a life apart from soccer, a plan she began developing at Penn State. Her first step was choosing Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management as her major, with plans to ultimately have a career in sports administration.
On Nov. 10, Briana Scurry will share her story — both as athlete and advocate — when she visits Penn State Behrend as part of the campus' Speaker Series. Her presentation, “On Success & Following Your Passion,” begins at 7:30 p.m. in the McGarvey Commons of the college’s Reed Union Building and is free and open to the public.
Two former Penn State women’s soccer players are advancing to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup final, helping the United States to reach Sunday’s final against Japan at 7 p.m. ET in Vancouver. Ali Krieger ’06 and Alyssa Naeher ’09 helped the U.S. to advance to the final with the team’s 2-0 win over Germany, the tournament’s top seed, in Tuesday’s semifinal.
Penn State women's soccer senior Raquel Rodriguez started in the midfield for Costa Rica's FIFA Women's World Cup debut on Tuesday. But in a 1-1 tie against fellow World Cup debutants Spain, Rodriguez also made Penn State history by becoming the first Nittany Lion to score in a World Cup, and earned LYG Player of the Match honors.
