Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts reveals 2018 poster design

The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts has released its 2018 collectible poster, which features elements familiar to any festival-goer: musical notes, a paintbrush and the festival jester, arranged over a background of yellows, oranges and pinks. However, this year’s poster is notable in that the festival jester is depicted as a woman for the first time.

The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts has released its 2017 collectable poster, free and available to pick up at several locations. The poster features the festival’s jester standing shoulder-to-shoulder in a stylized Central Pennsylvania landscape with the tower of Penn State’s Old Main in the background. Thirty years of festival posters, designed by Emeritus Professor of Graphic Design Lanny Sommese, are currently on display in the HUB-Robeson Center.

The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, held this year July 9-13, brings more than 100,000 people to downtown State College and Penn State’s University Park campus to celebrate the arts. Ranked consistently as one of the top outdoor fine art and fine craft shows in the nation, the 48th annual Arts Festival boasts the honor as the top show in the nation according to trade publication Sunshine Artist magazine.

As part of its 50th anniversary celebration in 2013, the Penn State College of Arts and Architecture produced a series of video interviews with its Distinguished and Evan Pugh Professors. First up is Lanny Sommese, distinguished professor of graphic design and founder of Penn State's Graphic Design program.
