Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center celebrated its upcoming opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 22.
The opening is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 1, and it will mark a significant expansion of Penn State Health on the West Shore. The hospital is located at 2200 Good Hope Road in Enola, Hampden Township.
Among those on hand for the ribbon-cutting were:
- Penn State Health CEO Steve Massini
- Pennsylvania Rep. Greg Rothman, R-87th Legislative District
- Dr. Peter Dillon, executive vice president and chief clinical officer at Penn State Health
- Don McKenna, regional president of Hampden Medical Center and Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center
- Deborah Addo, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Penn State Health
- John Thomas, president of the Hampden Township Board of Commissioners
- Deborah Rice-Johnson, president and chief growth officer at Highmark Inc.
When it opens, the hospital will employ 400 people with a planned increase during the first three years to about 950 employees. Located at the intersection of Good Hope and Wertzville roads, Hampden Medical Center will give residents of Cumberland and Perry counties, as well as the broader Capital Region, another option for the high quality acute services Penn State Health offers, complementing Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center.
The completion is another step in the Penn State Health and Highmark long-term goal of ensuring everyone in the communities they serve lives within 10 minutes of a Penn State Health primary care provider, 20 minutes of Penn State Health’s specialty care services and 30 minutes of a Penn State Health acute care hospital.
“On Oct. 1, Hampden Medical Center will open its doors to patients on the West Shore,” McKenna said. “Together with nearby Holy Spirit Medical Center, this state-of-the-art community hospital underscores our ongoing commitment to Penn State Health’s comprehensive primary and specialty care services close to home.”
