Penn State Health and Camp Hill Fire Company announce EMS agreement

September 17, 2021

HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State Health and Camp Hill Fire Company announced today (Sept. 17) they have reached an agreement for Camp Hill Emergency Medical Services to join Penn State Health Life Lion LLC. Camp Hill EMS has been providing prehospital emergency and nonemergency care to people in Camp Hill for more than 50 years. The staff and EMS operations will join Penn State Health this fall.

Penn State Health and Camp Hill EMS will continue to provide the timely, around-the-clock care that its patients have come to expect. Joining Penn State Health will allow the EMS operations to offer patients enhanced access to emergency and nonemergency care of Penn State Health, including Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center and Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center — set to open in October — as part of Penn State Health Life Lion LLC. Penn State Health Life Lion LLC manages the health system’s prehospital medicine program, in coordination with Life Lion Emergency Services at Penn State Health’s flagship Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

“Camp Hill EMS has been a partner to us for many years and now we are excited to have them join our EMS family. This will ensure the citizens of Camp Hill Borough and surrounding municipalities will continue to receive high quality prehospital care,” said Scott Buchle, director of Penn State Health Life Lion.

Penn State Health will continue to house an EMS unit at Camp Hill Fire Company 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As part of the transition, Penn State Health will honor all existing memberships between community members and Camp Hill EMS.

“Working with Penn State Health will provide enhancements to our EMS system that will, in turn, enhance patient care,” said Camp Hill Mayor Mark Simpson. “Our shared values of timely and compassionate care will make the transition easy.”

The agreement between the two organizations — which will take effect this fall — means that the approximately four full-time and 15 part-time employees of Camp Hill EMS will become Penn State Health employees. Penn State Health is actively seeking additional EMTs and paramedics for this and other locations throughout central Pennsylvania.
