HERSHEY, Pa. — Penn State Health has appointed Dr. Steven M. Ettinger to the newly created position of vice president and physician leader of Cardiovascular Services.
The health system created the position as part of its efforts to deliver superior, coordinated heart and vascular-related care across all of its hospitals and outpatient practices. Ettinger will work in close partnership with Holly Roush, who was named administrative vice president of Cardiovascular Services in April.
“Steven will ensure that we are providing the highest level of care to our heart and vascular patients, where and when they need it,” said Dr. Peter Dillon, executive vice president and chief clinical officer of Penn State Health. “His proven leadership in research, clinical care and patient safety make him superbly suited to lead the creation of a coordinated, comprehensive program delivering the best care and outcomes for all of our cardiovascular patients.”
With Penn State Health for more than 30 years, Ettinger has held leadership roles with Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute since 2005. He most recently served as both its director of operations and vice chair of patient safety and quality. He is also a tenured professor of medicine and radiology within the College of Medicine’s Division of Cardiology.

Ettinger, a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology, was a critical part of Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center’s heart and vascular team that has produced outcomes for ventricular assist device and transplant patients that are among the very best in the nation.
After receiving his medical degree from Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel, Ettinger completed his residency in internal medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He completed two fellowships — in cardiology and interventional cardiology — at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He also holds an MBA from the Smeal College of Business at Penn State.
