Centre Stage presents 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time'

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Centre Stage will present Simon Stephen's adaptation of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time," directed by Rick Lombardo, Sept. 28 through Oct. 9, with sensory-friendly performances on Oct. 3 and 6, at the Playhouse Theatre on the University Park campus.

The Tony Award-winning play, based on the novel by Mark Haddon, is about 15-year-old Christopher, who has an extraordinary brain. He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. When he finds his neighbor’s dog, who has died, his detective work takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world.

Producing artistic director Rick Lombardo states, "It is very important to us that everyone in the neurodivergent community in our region have barrier-free access to come to our theater and share in the telling of Christopher Boone's story. We hope this is just the beginning of including sensory-friendly performances in our Centre Stage seasons."

The two sensory-friendly performances will provide a welcoming space for all patrons with or without neurodivergent needs. Special considerations will include sensory supports, lower sound level, strobe light reduction, designated quiet areas, and a welcoming, judgement-free, family environment.

Ticket prices for sensory-friendly performances on Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. and Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. are $12.50; Evening performances at 7:30 p.m. are $25; preview performance at 7:30 p.m. is $20; and tickets for students are $12.50.
