UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Beginning Sept. 24, the Research Informatics and Publishing department at Penn State University Libraries and the Cloud Services team at Penn State will offer a series of virtual sessions on data analytics and visualization. Sessions will highlight tools for business analytics (Power BI, Tableau) and cloud platforms for big data analytics (Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services).

The goal of these sessions is to introduce resources and expertise in these areas that are available through the University Libraries and Cloud Services in partnership with Microsoft, Google and Amazon. Participants will explore available software tools and platforms with hands-on examples. A drop-in office hour will be offered after each workshop for those interested in discussing specific applications for their research projects.

Sessions are free and open to all Penn State faculty, staff and students. Advance registration is recommended; registration links are provided below for each session.

Data Analytics and Visualization Sessions

The introductory sessions are designed to provide an overview of the tools and explore their commonly used features for data modeling and data analysis and visualization. Demonstrations based on sample data sets will be provided for all sessions.

Data Visualization Best Practices will provide an overview of best practices for transforming your data into effective visualizations. The Big Data Analytics workshops will introduce each cloud platform and its tools for big data analytics and machine learning, followed by hands-on practice.
