Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State's College of Education share recent research and career achievements.
- Mildred Boveda, associate professor of education (special education), was recognized by Multiple Voices Journal for her service and contribution as a consulting editor.
- Jose Cossa, associate professor of education (adult education), has several new published articles: “Cosmo-uBuntu theorizing about the global citizen in modernity's frontiers: lived experience in Mozambique, United States, Swaziland, South Africa, and Egypt” in Social Justice in Public Spheres of Education; “Motivation to pursue a Ph.D. in computing: Black students in HBCUs” in Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies in Education; “Modernity’s university, social justice, and social responsibility: A Cosmo-Ubuntu critique” in Educação, Sociedade & Culturas; “Cosmo-Ubuntu: Toward a new (exterior to modernity) theorizing about the human, the cosmos, and education” in Comparative Education Review; and “Cosmo-uBuntu: Toward a new theorizing for justice in education and beyond” in Critical Theorizations of Education.
- Erica Frankenberg, professor of education (educational leadership and demography), co-authored an article, “Ethnoracial diversity and segregation in U.S. rural school districts” published in Rural Sociology. Her co-authors include Annie Maselli, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Education Policy Studies (EPS) and program alumni. In addition, Frankenberg and Katharine Dulaney, a doctoral candidate in EPS, co-authored another brief, “Inching Toward Integration? A Report of Student and Teacher Exposure to Racial Diversity in Pennsylvania’s Public Schools, 2013-2020”; and Maselli co-authored a brief, “Segregation Persists in Rural School Districts Despite Rising Ethnoracial Diversity.”
- Ed Fuller, associate professor of education (educational leadership), is quoted in a WJAC-TV report, “U.S. Department of Education approves PA American Rescue Plan funding.”
- Gerald LeTendre, H.L. Batschelet Chair of Education (educational leadership), co-authored an article, “Robots for Future Classrooms: A Cross-Cultural Validation Study of ‘Negative Attitudes Toward Robots Scale’ in the U.S. Context” in International Journal of Social Robotics. The lead author is Yu Xia, a doctoral candidate in learning, design, and technology in the College of Education.
- Beverly Lindsay, professor emerita of education (higher education and comparative and international education) who now is at University of California, explicated universities amid crises and pandemics at the Annual Conference of the Association of Black Sociologists on Aug. 6, 2021. She also organized a panel comprising several College of Education alumni that presented at the same conference. At the annual Sociology Conference, she also was selected to mentor doctoral sociology students from Yale University and Texas Woman’s University. She will work closely with students on navigating doctoral student experiences, international research and career options.
- Paul Morgan, Harry & Marion Eberly Faculty Fellow and professor of education (educational theory and policy), is quoted in an article, “With a diagnosis at last, Black women with ADHD start healing” in KHN.
- Karen Murphy, department head, distinguished professor of education (educational psychology) and Harry and Marion Eberly Faculty Fellow in the Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling, and Special Education (EPCSE) leads the editorial team for Review of Educational Research (RER), which for the fourth year in a row, is first in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), released in June. RER’s impact factor this year, 12.565, was its highest ever and more than 3 points higher than the second-place journal. In addition, RER’s five-year impact factor of 18.742 was 5 points higher than its closest competitor.
