Applications are now open for all Penn State campuses, colleges, programs and alumni groups interested in hosting a fundraising campaign during Penn State’s GivingTuesday celebration.

This year's event — which will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 30 — marks the seventh year that Penn State has participated in the international celebration of philanthropy. The event highlights the achievements of faculty, staff, students and alumni across Penn State and beyond, seeks to raise funds for a variety of initiatives and is one of the University’s most successful annual fundraising efforts. Last year, the institution’s GivingTuesday celebration broke institutional records by generating more than 10,000 gifts in less than 48 hours. In total, the 2020 event raised over $1 million dollars to benefit more than 125 University programs and initiatives.

Those interested in hosting a fundraising campaign this year can apply online before the application closes on Sept. 17. All are welcomed to participate, and approved applicants will be featured on Penn State’s GivingTuesday website, where various challenges will be promoted to encourage donor participation.

Student and alumni groups can also host GivingTuesday campaigns, and their past efforts have garnered tremendous success. Last year, 20 of the #GivingTuesday fundraising pages were student-run, raising $23,000 from nearly 500 donors, and the inaugural two alumni interest group campaigns raised more than $8,500 to support student scholarships. Alumni and students are invited to submit applications online by Sept. 17.

GivingTuesday at Penn State is an opportunity to not only encourage philanthropy but amplify the important role that alumni and friends play in the University community. Questions about the day or the application process should be directed to givingtuesday@psu.edu.

Gifts made on GivingTuesday 2021 will advance “A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence,” a focused campaign that seeks to elevate Penn State’s position as a leading public university in a world defined by rapid change and global connections. With the support of alumni and friends, “A Greater Penn State” seeks to fulfill the three key imperatives of a 21st-century public university: keeping the doors to higher education open to hardworking students regardless of financial well-being; creating transformative experiences that go beyond the classroom; and impacting the world by fueling discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.
