By cutting the ribbons on two new outpatient locations in Harrisburg, Penn State Health is enhancing access to its primary and specialty care services in central Pennsylvania. Today Penn State Health leaders, Highmark Health leaders and staff celebrated the openings of Penn State Health Medical Group – Blue Ridge and Penn State Health Diagnostic Center – Union Deposit.
Penn State Health Medical Group – Blue Ridge, located near the intersection of Linglestown and Crums Mill Roads, will feature primary care, internal medicine, women’s health and pulmonary services. The new, 7,500-square-foot practice will include 12 exam rooms and additional clinical support space for a team of four primary care providers and about a dozen support staff.
Penn State Health Diagnostic Center – Union Deposit, located on Union Deposit Road, offers diagnostic imaging services, focusing on breast care in a comfortable environment using brand-new 3D mammography units with stereotactic biopsy capability, plus breast ultrasound with ultrasound-guided breast biopsy capability. Mammography results will be provided at the time of service. Additional service offerings include bone density scans and ultrasound-guided thyroid and lymph node biopsy. Mammography technologists, sonographers, radiologists and support staff will work in the 11,000-square-foot building.
“Together with Highmark Health, we made a commitment to bring our services closer to where our patients live and work so they have more choice and easier access to the care they need,” said Jeanette Gibbs, senior vice president for ambulatory services at Penn State Health. “Today’s new practice site openings show our continued commitment to provide high quality, safe and convenient care in the community.”
This marks another step in the Penn State Health and Highmark long-term goal of ensuring that everyone in the communities it serves is within 10 minutes of a Penn State Health primary care provider, 20 minutes of its specialty care services and 30 minutes of a Penn State Health acute care hospital. In addition to the new practice locations, Penn State Health is building new hospitals in Lancaster and Cumberland counties, enhancing access to Penn State Health primary and specialty services in growing regions of the state where the demand for care has increased. Construction recently completed on Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center, which is scheduled to open in October and will serve Cumberland and surrounding counties. Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center will open in 2022 and complements the health system’s other efforts to provide care for residents of Lancaster County close to where they live.
In December 2017, Highmark and Penn State Health announced a joint investment of $1 billion in the health and well-being of central Pennsylvanians to keep health care local.
