Behrend softball team wins AMCC championship

The Penn State Behrend softball team won its ninth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship with a sweep of Mt. Aloysius on May 15. The Lions (28-6) will face Rochester in the first round of the NCAA Division III Regional on Friday, May 21.

The Lions advanced to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship with a pair of wins over No. 3 Mt. Aloysius. Thomas Zbezinski, a junior from Gibsonia, pitched the opener, recording a career-high 11 strikeouts. Colin Harger, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, batted 5-for-5, earning four runs and two RBIs.

The Lions advanced to the AMCC championship with a sweep of Penn State Altoona. Mackenzie McIntire, a senior from Stoneboro, hit two doubles against Penn State Altoona, bringing her career total to 51 – the most for any player in program history.

 

Men’s golf

The Lions placed 33rd (of 37 teams) at the NCAA Division III championships, which were held at the Oglebay Resort & Conference Center. Ryan Meyer, a sophomore from Sewickley, led the team with a two-day score of 160.

 

Men’s track and field

Eric Stehlik, a junior from Northport, New York, placed third in the 100-meter dash at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Invitational at Grove City College. He finished in 11.07 seconds. Jack Georgetson, a senior from Aliquippa, cleared a season-best height of 4.58 meters in the pole vault.

 

Women’s tennis

York 5, Penn State Behrend 1

The Lions fell in the first round of the NCAA Division III championships at Washington and Lee University. Erica Jasinski, a sophomore from Fairview, and Audra Carnes, a freshman from Fairview, won a 7-2 tiebreaker to take the match at No. 2 doubles.
