UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Learning, the multi-subject learning and writing center at the University Park campus, will offer remote math and writing tutoring this summer starting May 24 and continuing through Summer Session II.

New and returning students, as well as their families, may also connect with tutors online to learn more about Penn State Learning’s services. Anyone with questions about how undergraduate tutoring works at Penn State may submit the Meet a Peer Tutor form, and a tutor will follow up.

Math tutoring

Peer tutors for Math 004 through Math 141 will be available by appointment via Zoom from Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to noon and 7 to 9 p.m. (ET). Students may sign up for appointments at Starfish

Writing tutoring, with asynchronous option

Peer tutors for writing across the undergraduate curriculum will also be available by appointment during the following times:

—Summer Session I (May 24 to June 24), Monday through Wednesday 10 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.; Thursday 6 to 9 p.m. (ET)

—Summer Session II (July 6 to Aug. 12), Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to noon and 6 to 9 p.m. (ET)

Scheduling with a peer tutor during the above times requires an appointment through Starfish.

Penn State Learning will also continue to offer asynchronous writing tutoring. Through this option, students submit a detailed form along with their writing, then receive feedback from tutors within three days of submission. This option is designed for students who like to plan ahead and want feedback on multiple drafts or for whom synchronous tutoring times are simply inconvenient.

Writing instructors are encouraged to request class visits or workshops from writing tutors.

“Study Smarter” workshop

A two-hour, transition-to-college "Study Smarter" workshop will be offered on eight dates throughout the summer, starting May 27. This workshop provides an excellent introduction to college-level learning for any Penn State student and will be led by peer tutors who have successfully navigated the transition themselves. Registration is required for this remote synchronous workshop.
