Penn State Altoona to host Sea Air Land Challenge

May 06, 2021

ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona will host its second Sea Air Land (SeAL) Challenge on Thursday, May 13.

The SeAL Challenge is sponsored by the U.S. Office of Naval Research. Teams of high school students learn about the engineering process through designing a robotic system relevant to the U.S. Department of Defense. The systems are then used to compete in challenges that mimic missions encountered by the military, national security agencies and first responders.

This year, teams will build at their own locations and come together virtually on the day of the event. Teams will introduce themselves and their concept to the judges and showcase their robotics systems in a modified course. Awards will be presented for the Best Sea, Air and Land Challenge teams, and a fourth award will go to the Best Innovative Design.

Penn State Altoona's Division of Business, Engineering, and Information Sciences and Technology and Office of Continuing Education are serving as regional coordinators.
