Grana recognized for Exceptional Moments in Teaching

Dr. Jennifer Grana of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is featured for May in the “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” program.

“I had an enriching and fulfilling learning experience working with Dr. Grana during the Family Medicine Clerkship over this past year,” a current student wrote. “She did an excellent job at facilitating an environment conducive to learning and seemed passionate about medical student education.

“Unlike other clerkships, I actually felt like I played an integral role in patient care. I also appreciated Dr. Grana's frequent constructive feedback and encouragement – she was very supportive, even when I made mistakes.”

Grana grew up locally, attending high school in Lancaster County. After graduating from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, she completed her family and community medicine residency at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, affiliated with the Boonschoft School of Medicine at Wright State University.

Grana joined the Penn State Health Family and Community Medicine team after working within a community medical group in both Tennessee and Illinois. She sees patients at Penn State Health Medical Group – Nyes Road, where she treats patients of all ages and works with students at many different levels – from high school learners and college shadowing students, to nurse practitioners, physician assistants and medical students.

Grana has served as Nyes Road medical student site director and Family and Community Medicine third-year co-clerkship director. She is currently the Family and Community Medicine fourth-year acting internships course director.

Penn State College of Medicine’s Office for a Respectful Learning Environment recognizes exceptional faculty, residents and fellows with the monthly “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” program. One faculty member and one resident/fellow are highlighted each month for their contributions. College of Medicine students are invited to submit narratives about faculty members, residents, nurses or any other educators who challenge them and provide an exceptional learning experience using the online nomination form.
