SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — On April 19, Penn State Schuylkill hosted an induction ceremony for the campus’ newest members of the Pi Sigma chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national adult honor society. This year, 20 students were added to the honor society’s ranks.
To be inducted into the honor society, students must have earned at least 24 credits at Penn State, maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and met the University’s requirements to be defined as an adult learner.
Adult learners at Penn State are:
- 24 years of age or older; or
- veterans or actively serving members of the armed services; or
- returning to school after four or more years of employment, homemaking, or other activity; or
- assuming multiple adult roles, such as parent, spouse/partner and employee.

“It is important that we, as a campus, recognize this high-achieving group of our student body,” said Gina Whalen, assistant professor of business and business division coordinator, and faculty adviser to Alpha Sigma Lambda. “Adult learners often face challenges as they must balance the demands of full-time work and family obligations. We honor these students who remained focused and made their personal development and learning a priority.”
