Hoffman has been a faculty member in the Special Education program since 2008. While she has held several positions in the program over the years, her primary role since 2015 has been coordinating the online master of education in special education offered via Penn State World Campus. As program coordinator, Hoffman serves as the liaison between the Special Education program and World Campus, and she assists in recruiting students, supporting faculty and maintaining a high-quality program, among other tasks. In addition to coordinating the program, she advises students around the world across three different areas of emphasis: applied behavior analysis (ABA), academic and behavior supports, and autism. Hoffman also teaches a variety of courses, but typically teaches the Capstone Seminar in Special Education and Evidenced-based Assessment for Teaching Learners with Special Needs.

Hoffman’s scholarly interests include teacher preparation, distance education and progress monitoring at the K-12 level. Her recent research efforts revolved around the use of formative measures in teacher preparation. Specifically, she and several colleagues explored the use of curriculum-based measures in the college classroom. Hoffman is an active member of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and CEC’s Teacher Education Division .

Hoffman is an adviser for Harmony, a multidisciplinary performing arts program that helps cultivate relationships, promote equality, boost communication and develop creativity through musical theater. Harmony’s mission is to promote inclusivity while connecting Penn State students with individuals with and without special needs in the community.
