WOOSTER, Ohio — The accolades continued to roll in on Wednesday, April 7 for Penn State Altoona baseball’s senior first baseman Catcher Cumming (Altoona, Pennsylvania/Altoona), who was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s (NCBWA) NCAA Division III National Hitter of the Week.

Cumming had a big day in the Nittany Lions’ sweep of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Medaille College this past Saturday. Wednesday’s award from the NCBWA marks the third recognition in the past three days for the senior slugger, who already took AMCC Player of the Week and D3baseball.com Team of the Week honors this week.

In game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, Cumming went 1-for-2 with two runs batted in, two runs scored, and one double. In game two, Cumming was 3-for-5 with three home runs — including a grand slam — seven RBI, and three runs scored.

Cumming's three home runs in the second game of the doubleheader set a new Penn State Altoona baseball single game record, representing the most homers hit in a game in program history.

On the week, Cumming hit .571 (4-for-7) with nine RBI, five runs scored, three home runs, and one double. He posted a .556 on-base percentage, a 2.000 slugging percentage, and was perfect in the field with 15 putouts on 15 total chances.

Penn State Altoona baseball returns to action this Thursday, April 8, when the Lions will host non-conference opponent Wilson College for a doubleheader at Stewart Athletic Field starting at 1 p.m.
