Virtual Venture & IP Conference panel highlights life science ventures and COVID

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — How are life science ventures leveraging their technologies to help mitigate the spread and virulence of the novel coronavirus? The Invent Penn State Venture & IP Conference panel “Life Science Ventures Addressing COVID-19” will explore this topic from 4:25-5:20 p.m. on Thursday, April 15.

Registration for the all-virtual Invent Penn State Venture & IP Conference, happening April 15-16, is currently open to the public.

Panel members include:

  • Pete DeComo  chairman and CEO, ALung Technologies Inc.: DeComo has served as chairman and CEO of ALung Technologies Inc. since 2010. ALung is the developer of a revolutionary artificial lung for patients suffering from acute respiratory failure. He has raised more than $100 million to complete the development of ALung's technology, which is now approved in 35 countries outside the United States.
  • Tim Pelura – CEO, Respana Therapeutics: Pelura is a serial life science entrepreneur with more than 40 years of experience in the life science industry and has been pivotal in the development of several new therapies spanning numerous therapeutic areas. He has a long history of growing early/idea stage life science companies through various financing strategies to well-capitalized, successful companies. He is CEO of Respana Therapeutics, a startup developing therapeutics to increase influenza survival, and executive chair of Haima Therapeutics, which develops therapies for bleeding disorders and hematologic diseases.
  • Teresa Whalen  CEO, CytoAgents Inc.: As a biotech innovator, health care technology leader, life sciences investor and clinical pharmacist, Whalen has a successful track record of bringing life-changing health care products to market. As the CEO of CytoAgents, she leads a team of world-renowned clinical drug development experts and scientific advisory board members who are at the forefront of groundbreaking solutions to combat persistent and potentially deadly strains of influenza, COVID-19 and other viruses.

Larry Miller, managing director of life sciences at Innovation Works, will moderate the panel. At Innovation Works, Miller works with management teams of early-stage life sciences and medical device companies and other startups.
