Workshop to discuss dynamical systems techniques in health research

Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute workshop is May 12

Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute will present the workshop “Dynamical Systems Approaches to Intensive Longitudinal Data” from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on May 12.

Sy-Miin Chow, professor of human development and family studies, will provide an overview of practical methods for examining linear and nonlinear patterns of change in ambulatory intensive longitudinal data, like those collected using mobile devices. Topics will include discrete- and continuous-time dynamic models and related extensions.

Chow will present examples of dynamical systems from developmental, health and intervention sciences to provide perspectives on when dynamical systems techniques might help answer health-related questions. Examples use R and R packages such as dynr and lavaan. For participants unfamiliar with R, introductory training materials will be distributed before the workshop date.

Registration is limited to 50 participants and is available to those affiliated with Penn State. Register using a psu.edu email address here

Available spots will be open to other organizations after May 1.
