UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As the University community looks forward to in-residence instruction in fall 2021, some undergraduate and graduate students may experience exceptional circumstances (e.g., visa, travel restrictions or health-related) that will prevent them from being on campus. Planning work is underway to support these students. The “Plans to Support Students Who Cannot Be On Campus in Fall 2021” webinar is open to all instructors, academic advisers and staff who work with students and want to learn about the planning efforts.
“This webinar is an opportunity for faculty, academic advisers and other staff to come together and learn how they can help support students in their academic planning efforts,” said Penny Carlson, assistant vice president and executive director for academic services and assessment for Commonwealth Campuses and co-lead of the planning team. “We have many dedicated and talented people working together to help students. We all play a role in connecting students with the information, support and resources they need,” she said.
The webinar will be held via Zoom on April 6 during two live sessions from noon to 1 pm and again from 3 to 4 p.m. (U.S. eastern time). The same content will be covered during both sessions, which will be recorded for those unable to attend.
Participants can learn about the process and timeline for students to “Raise Their Hands” for assistance in Starfish and how faculty and academic advisers also can identify and support students as they navigate options during the fall registration process. The webinar will be led by representatives of a University-wide planning team comprised of Penn State instructors, staff and students from colleges and campuses and representing areas including academic advising, undergraduate and graduate education, Global Programs and World Campus. In addition, academic leaders will talk about plans for expanding the capacity for remote instruction through the World Campus.
