Should I get the first COVID vaccine available or wait for my vaccine of choice?

With three COVID-19 vaccines now available, you may be wondering how they compare to each other and whether you should wait to get your preferred vaccine.

“What you need to know is that vaccines keep us safe in two ways,” says David Kennedy, assistant professor of biology. “They protect us, and they protect the people around us. Every time someone gets vaccinated, everyone is a little safer because the amount of circulating virus drops.”

Plus, he adds, “all three vaccines have been shown to be safe and effective against COVID-19.”

So, “don’t wait,” he says. “Get the first vaccine that’s offered to you so that we can turn the corner on this pandemic sooner. It’s what I plan to do.”
