UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Registration for summer 2021 courses at all Penn State campuses will open Thursday, March 25. Students can choose from thousands of courses offered in a variety of delivery modes across 24 Penn State campuses.
“Whether they wish to catch up or get ahead in their degree programs, students can devise a summer educational plan that works for them,” said Kelly Griffith, director of the Office for Summer Session. “Wherever students plan to be this summer, Penn State will meet them there.”
Students will have the option to choose from a full slate of courses delivered in the range of instructional modes Penn State has offered throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, along with an expanded suite of in-person offerings this summer. As in past summers, students will also have the option to take courses at any Penn State campus, including Penn State World Campus. This flexibility is intended to allow students to customize their learning based on their individual needs and preferences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students may opt to use summer as an opportunity to catch up in their degree programs by taking courses that did not fit into their schedules during the regular academic year or to retake a course that did not go as planned. Alternatively, students may wish to get ahead in their degree programs or to make progress toward a minor or certificate.
Students will be able to access the summer 2021 Schedule of Courses, with information about the instructional mode for each course, on LionPATH beginning Wednesday, March 17. Course delivery options will include the following, with LionPATH codes listed in parentheses:
- In-Person Instruction (COVID In-Person) — Students meet in the assigned classroom at the time assigned in the course schedule.
- Mixed-Mode Instruction (COVID Mixed Mode) — Instructors deploy a combination of instructional modes to meet physical distancing requirements.
- Remote Synchronous Instruction (COVID Remote) — Students attend all classes remotely at the scheduled time.
- Remote Asynchronous Instruction (COVID Web) — Course material is made available for students to work through on their own schedules.
Registration for summer 2021 classes will open in LionPATH for all students, regardless of credits earned, on Thursday, March 25.
