UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Libraries’ Pattee Library and Paterno Library lower-floor hours will begin at 9 a.m. weekdays starting Monday, March 8, on the University Park campus. The revised schedule follows a successful rollout and continuation of 7:30 a.m. quiet study space weekdays in Paterno Library’s Ross Global News Center, and complements the always-available online services and remote resources open to all Penn State students and employees.

A detailed list of remote service and resource options has been curated on a web page linked atop the University Libraries homepage and updated regularly since early spring 2020.

“Adding hours back to Pattee Library and Paterno Library’s weekly schedule has been part of Penn State University Libraries’ phased plan to provide safe operating hours and library spaces,” said Leo Lo, the Libraries’ associate dean for learning, undergraduate services and Commonwealth Campuses “Resumption of Sunday hours is under discussion by the University Libraries leadership team, with planning for increased staffing on site based on factors including the state of employees’ overall health, health risks and level of vaccination; data-driven metrics and Penn State’s most recent operational guidance. As we continue to assess these conditions, we are hopeful that we can reinstate Sunday hours soon.”

Paterno Library’s Dr. Keiko Miwa Ross Global News Center and MacKinnon’s Lounge are on its first floor, adjacent to Starbucks at Paterno Library. The Curtin Road entrance to Paterno Library will continue to open at 7:30 a.m. weekdays, with the Starbucks opening at 8 a.m. The self-service pickup area for requested checkout items also will continue to open at 11 a.m. in Mann Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library.

Pattee Library’s ground-floor Collaboration Commons and Central Atrium and first floor Knowledge Commons, Sidewater Commons and Commons Services desk will open at 9 a.m. weekdays.

General library and research assistance is available via chat, text and email and remotely by Zoom appointment through the Ask a Librarian service via libraries.psu.edu/ask, which is staffed noon to 10 p.m. Sunday; 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; during the spring semester.

In addition, a list of searchable, subject-expert and location-specific librarians available for help is at libraries.psu.edu/experts.

University Park students also can get help remotely from trained Penn State student consultants through Search Bar Services via Zoom. To connect with a peer research consultant, students should visit the Search Bar Services page and click on the blue “Connect with us!” button. Separate links to access peer writing tutors and tech tutors also are listed on that page.
