Ag interest trustee election to move forward

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — During the meeting of the Board of Trustees Committee on Governance and Long-Range Planning on Feb. 18, the committee approved proceeding with the election of agricultural interest trustees.

Due to ongoing COVID restrictions on events and gatherings, the election of agricultural trustees by agricultural delegates will be conducted through telephone caucusing and mail-in balloting, similar to the 2020 agricultural trustee election.

Unlike the election of alumni trustees, which is conducted in a separate electronic process, the voting for the agricultural interest trustee traditionally involves in-person caucusing and voting. Certified agricultural organizations in each county across Pennsylvania convene to elect three delegates who, in turn, vote for the agricultural interest trustees.

County caucusing will be held via telephone from noon to 1 p.m. on April 14.

Mail-in ballots with instructions will be sent via UPS beginning on April 15 to the three delegates representing the interests of their county. Only the final three delegates for the county will be mailed instructions and ballots. Ballots should be postmarked no later than May 1 and must be received by 5 p.m. on May 5 to be valid.

The board will then verify and announce the newly elected agricultural trustees at its May meeting.
