UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State University Health Services is hosting two additional flu clinics for students to get vaccinated from 9 am. to 4 p.m. Feb. 24 and 25 in Alumni Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus. These are by appointment only, so students must schedule an appointment via myUHS beforehand.

An annual flu vaccine is the first and most important step in preventing flu viruses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a flu vaccine for everyone, age 6 months, and older.

Students attending Commonwealth Campuses are encouraged to contact their on-campus health services or local provider for inquiries regarding a flu shot.

In addition, students who receive a vaccination at one of the flu clinics will be exempt from administration and appointment fees. Likewise, students are also welcomed to schedule a private appointment with UHS to receive a flu shot at any time.

The cost to receive a vaccination is $25, billable to insurance or the student’s Bursar account. Although most insurances cover the cost, to make sure students have access to the vaccine, the Student Fee Board has allocated funds to cover the cost of the flu vaccine for more than 4,500 students and approximately 1,629 free flu shots remain available. To schedule an appointment, visit the myUHS webpage.

#FightFluPSU is an annual campaign running from September to March that educates and spreads awareness resources to students on influenza and immunization.

Before attending the flu clinics, UHS has a couple of pre-visit requirements. They are as follows:

  • Go to "forms" in myUHS and make sure the "Consent to Treat", Notice of Privacy Practices", and the Student Account Billing and Financial Aid Statement have been completed.
  • Go to "Insurance Cards" and upload your health insurance card. If there is no insurance on file, charges will be billed to your student account.

Students attending the flu clinics must bring their Penn State ID. The vaccination administered will be the Fluarix Quadrivalent flu vaccine which is thimerosal-free and latex-free. For more information on the flu clinics, visit the UHS Flu Clinic webpage.
