UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Institute for Sustainable Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Science (SAFES) kicked off its first seminar series of the year on Feb. 18. The series, "Catalyzing Your Research," will focus on supporting faculty in finding new internal and external opportunities.
"The goal of these workshops is to support and inspire the development of cross-disciplinary collaborations tackling critical issues in the food, agricultural and environmental sciences across Penn State," said Christina Grozinger, SAFES associate director of research and Publius Vergilius Maro Professor of Entomology.
On Feb. 18, the series opened with two presenters from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institutes of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), discussing "Scaling up your research program to maximize impacts."
Erica Kistner-Thomas is a national program leader at NIFA’s Institute of Food Production and Sustainability. She manages grant programs involving both pests and beneficial species of agronomic importance. Megan O’Rourke is a national program leader at NIFA’s Institute of Bioenergy, Climate and Environment, managing agroecology, climate change and sustainable agricultural systems (SAS) programming.
