UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — When in-person spring 2021 classes resume on the University Park campus, early risers will gain additional access to both Paterno Library’s Starbucks and the adjacent MacKinnon’s Lounge and Ross Global News Center for early morning, socially distanced study space.

Beginning Feb. 15, Paterno Library’s first floor will open at 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday via the library’s Curtin Road entrance for study space in the Dr. Keika Miwa Ross Global News Center, 126 Paterno Library. The spring 2021 hours for Penn State Food Services’ Starbucks at Paterno Library are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

Other areas on the first floor of Pattee Library and Paterno Library and Pattee Library’s ground floor Collaboration Commons will continue to open at 11 a.m. weekdays, as previously announced. Starbucks at Paterno Library and most Penn State University Libraries locations are closed weekends this spring.

Self-service pickups of users’ requested library checkout items have moved indoors for the winter and will be available starting at 11 a.m. Monday through Friday in Mann Assembly Room, 103 Paterno Library. Users requesting items for checkout are encouraged to bring their own bags to carry home requested books and other materials from their location’s pickup area, to support sustainability best practices.

When inclement weather causes delays in opening or necessitates closing locations, University Libraries help remains available remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist all library users.

General library and research assistance is available via chat, text and email and remotely by Zoom appointment through the Ask a Librarian service via  https://libraries.psu.edu/ask, which is staffed Sunday noon-10 p.m., Monday–Thursday 8 a.m.–10 p.m., Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.–4 p.m. during the spring semester.

In addition, a list of searchable, subject-expert and location-specific librarians available for help is at https://libraries.psu.edu/experts.

University Park students also can get help remotely from trained Penn State student consultants through Search Bar Services via Zoom. To connect with a peer research consultant, students should visit the Search Bar Services page and click on the blue “Connect with us!” button. Separate links to access peer writing tutors and tech tutors also are listed on that page.
