UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The HUB-Robeson Galleries are have partnered with the Jana Marie Foundation and the Center for the Performing Arts to present "Breathe Together," a series of virtual events that remind us of the importance of taking deep breaths and connecting with ourselves and others. Through the power of dialogue, mindfulness, and creative expression this workshop series creates a space to spark conversations, build connections, and promote mental well-being. Come for one workshop or both, workshops will be held Feb. 2 and Feb. 9, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Register for "Breathe Together."

"Breathe Together" is inspired by "The Anxiety Project" an exhibition currently installed in HUB Gallery and online. Bill Doan’s artwork reminds us about the importance of taking deep breaths and connecting with ourselves and others. Each session we will view the exhibition virtually, build connections through conversations, and create our own art to transform emotional distress into hope and resiliency. No prior arts experience is needed.

“It is a great honor to partner with Medora Ebersole of the Center for the Performing Arts and HUB-Robeson Galleries on this program.” said Marisa Vicere, founder and executive director of the Jana Marie Foundation. “Throughout the years, Jana Marie Foundation has closely followed the work of Dr. Bill Doan and his engaging way of igniting conversations about mental health and well-being. Bill Doan has supported the work of the Jana Marie Foundation and has spoken and performed at the foundation’s annual dinner as well as at An Evening of Hope, Healing, and Remembrance (suicide prevention day). We are forever grateful for these partnerships.”

About The Anxiety Project

For Doan, drawing, performing, and sharing have helped him – and others – cope. Therapeutic and alleviating symptoms, drawing, performing, and storytelling have helped Doan to imagine his mental health, rather than to be defined by mental illness. "The Anxiety Project," invites others to draw for their mental health too. Available online and in-person, "The Anxiety Project" is installed in HUB Gallery and is open daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through March 14.
