Office for Summer Session accepting applications for summer 2021 LEAP mentors

January 19, 2021

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Office for Summer Session is now accepting applications for summer 2021 LEAP mentor positions. LEAP mentors are an integral piece of the Learning Edge Academic Program (LEAP), a summer transition program for incoming first-year students at the University Park campus.

LEAP mentors help ease the transition to college for first-year students and help them get started in a small, supportive environment. They serve as role models and connect students to resources and opportunities in the Penn State and State College communities during Summer Session II (June 28 – Aug. 13, 2021). The position is suitable for students looking to gain leadership experience and those looking to help incoming Penn State students acclimate to the University.

Aidan Schneider, who served as a LEAP mentor in 2020, said of her experience, “Being a LEAP mentor was extremely beneficial for my overall college experience. I gained valuable leadership experience and professional skills and became part of a wonderful network of students and staff — the LEAP family within the Penn State family.”

To apply to be a LEAP mentor, students must attend an information session. Information sessions will be held virtually on the following dates:

  • Jan. 19 at 6 p.m.
  • Jan. 27 at noon
  • Feb. 11 at 8 p.m.

All information sessions will be held via Zoom at

Students can find the job posting by visiting, logging into Workday, selecting the “Career” application, and, under “View,” selecting “Career Opportunities.” The job posting can be found by searching either the job number (Req_0000009437) or title (Part-Time LEAP Mentor/Undergraduate Education). The review of applications will begin immediately and will be ongoing until all positions are filled. For more information, visit or email
