UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Office for Summer Session is now accepting applications for summer 2021 LEAP mentor positions. LEAP mentors are an integral piece of the Learning Edge Academic Program (LEAP), a summer transition program for incoming first-year students at the University Park campus.

LEAP mentors help ease the transition to college for first-year students and help them get started in a small, supportive environment. They serve as role models and connect students to resources and opportunities in the Penn State and State College communities during Summer Session II (June 28 – Aug. 13, 2021). The position is suitable for students looking to gain leadership experience and those looking to help incoming Penn State students acclimate to the University.

Aidan Schneider, who served as a LEAP mentor in 2020, said of her experience, “Being a LEAP mentor was extremely beneficial for my overall college experience. I gained valuable leadership experience and professional skills and became part of a wonderful network of students and staff — the LEAP family within the Penn State family.”

To apply to be a LEAP mentor, students must attend an information session. Information sessions will be held virtually on the following dates:

  • Jan. 19 at 6 p.m.
  • Jan. 27 at noon
  • Feb. 11 at 8 p.m.

All information sessions will be held via Zoom at https://psu.zoom.us/my/summersession.

Students can find the job posting by visiting hr.psu.edu/careers, logging into Workday, selecting the “Career” application, and, under “View,” selecting “Career Opportunities.” The job posting can be found by searching either the job number (Req_0000009437) or title (Part-Time LEAP Mentor/Undergraduate Education). The review of applications will begin immediately and will be ongoing until all positions are filled. For more information, visit summersession.psu.edu/leap/be-a-mentor or email leap@psu.edu.
