COVID-19 Student Ambassador Program now seeking paid applicants for spring 2021

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Student Affairs is now hiring student employees for the Public Health Ambassador program for the spring semester. The program is designed to provide students at University Park with guidance on healthy behaviors and social norms related to COVID-19. This job is available from Jan. 18 to May 7, 2021.

The Public Health Ambassador Program trains paid student employees to safely and strategically engage in dialogue with their peers about the importance of mask-wearing, physical distancing, proper cough/hand hygiene, and to ensure that questions and expectations surrounding health and safety guidelines at the University are addressed.

One of the team leaders, Ashali Salvi, shared her experience being an ambassador. “This program has allowed me to combine my Penn State pride with my passion for healthcare," she said. "This program has given me the opportunity to further develop my leadership and interpersonal skills, and has allowed me to directly give back to the Penn State community. I believe this program will continue to be beneficial for both the Ambassadors and the Penn State community.”

The program is administered by Health Promotion and Wellness, in collaboration with a number of additional Student Affairs units.

Applications for Public Health Ambassadors will be accepted through Dec. 9. Ambassadors will be expected to work a minimum of 10 hours each week. The hourly rate is $9.50. The start date is Jan. 18, 2021. All undergraduate, graduate and professional students are encouraged to apply.

Interviews will be conducted via Zoom through Dec. 18. Selected candidates will receive training and will be provided with all materials necessary to successfully engage with peers.

Interested students should visit Penn State WorkLion and search “Public Health Ambassador” (REQ_0000008536 and REQ_0000006279 for the work- study option) to apply. The deadline to apply is Dec. 9. Applicants are encouraged to submit a resume and cover letter.
