UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The College of Information Sciences and Technology will honor Kylie Dunmire as student marshal at fall 2020 commencement, which will be held virtually at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19.

Originally from Oviedo, Florida, Dunmire will graduate with two bachelor’s degrees: a bachelor of science in security and risk analysis and a bachelor of arts in international politics. Dunmire is also pursuing a master’s degree in international affairs through Penn State’s integrated undergraduate-graduate (IUG) program, from which she plans to graduate in 2021.

“Being student marshal is very meaningful to me, as it feels like a reminder that perseverance pays off,” said Dunmire. “This year I’ve had to change my academic and career plans numerous times, like many other people have done as a result of the global pandemic.”

She continued, “While I struggled not being able to realize my initial plans, by continuing to work hard I was blessed to experience opportunities I had never planned for.”

Dunmire chose as her faculty marshal Ret. Col. Jake Graham, professor of practice, whose class she said reaffirmed her passion for her career choice.

“Colonel Graham’s class was not only my favorite at Penn State, but also the most useful class in determining my career goals,” Dunmire said. “After taking this class, I knew for certain I was majoring in the field I wanted to spend my career in. I really admire the career he led and benefited from the wisdom he shared.”

At Penn State, Dunmire achieved Dean’s List every semester and has won multiple awards throughout her academic career, including the President's Sparks Award, the Evan Pugh Scholar Senior Award, and the Chaiken Scholarship. She also served as a student supervisor for Penn State’s Student Technology Services and as a security leader for THON 2018. Additionally, she completed summer internships with Penn State’s Applied Research Lab and the Joint Interagency Task Force South.

Upon graduation from her master’s program in May 2021, Dunmire plans to continue her work as a cybersecurity analyst at Fortress Information Security in Florida.
