UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The THON website recently published a new virtual gallery showcasing five previous logos from the annual event as well as the designers responsible for them, four of which are now alumni of the Graphic Design program.

The logo designs from Stuckeman School alumni Susan (Burroughs) Schoonmaker, Megan Henry-Hanebury, Anne Donnard and Lindsay Stork are featured, as well as individual profiles on each designer. The fifth featured logo came from current computer science student Andrea Hinkle, who is minoring in graphic design.

The interview-style profiles of alumni include their inspirations for their logos, their favorite memories of THON and where their lives have taken them since winning the logo contest for the largest student-run student philanthropy in the world.

“I am incredibly proud of the diligent effort put together by our university and community to unify for THON 2021 despite the many challenges the pandemic poses this year. Having our alumni spotlighted in this gallery points to the integral role our students have played in representing this keystone event for the Penn State community and it is always lovely to see where our former students are now in life,” said Phil Choo, professor and head of the Department of Graphic Design.

“Our department is grateful to be a part of this important tradition where our community comes together to make a difference and have a positive impact on the lives of these children and their families who are facing some of the most difficult times in their lives,” he added.

The virtual THON logo gallery aims to celebrate past winners of the annual logo contest while drumming up interest for 2021 THON, which will be held virtually for the first time in history. To view the virtual gallery, visit the THON website.
