MEDIA, Pa. — Margaret Bacheler, director of continuing education at Penn State Brandywine and senior director of statewide continuing education and workforce development for Penn State’s 20 Commonwealth Campuses, has been appointed to the executive council of the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association of the Delaware Valley.

The organization serves as the alumni association for members of Phi Beta Kappa in the Greater Philadelphia region and is one of more than 50 associations that connect alumni members for networking, cultural events, community service and scholarships.

Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is an academic honor society for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and sciences. Bacheler earned her Phi Beta Kappa key at Hamilton College, where she majored in world politics. She later earned a master’s degree in management from St. Joseph’s University and a doctorate in higher education from Widener University.

“As the workplace needs to reset itself to adjust to the COVID-19 realities, critical thinking and problem-solving skills will become even more essential,” Bacheler said. “I look forward to working with the Phi Beta Kappa associations throughout the nation on bringing the competencies gained through a liberal arts education to address these critical global problems”

Bacheler has worked in the field of adult education and workforce development for more than 20 years. Since joining Brandywine in 2011, she has built effective continuing education and entrepreneurship programs and developed a collaborative network of employers and colleagues centered on improving workforce development in the region.

Her research interests focus on building career competencies, competency-based education, microcredentials and digital badges.
