Altoona to present series on mapping career pathways

ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona will offer "Destination Unknown: Mapping Career Pathways in the 21st Century," a series of virtual question-and-answer sessions with college graduates who have built professional expertise from different academic disciplines.

The series is designed to help students who may be weighing talents and interests against employability and a “sensible” major or who are pondering what a college education means in the long run.

Thursday, Nov. 5 from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m.

Solomon Darko (aspiring doctor gone entomologist gone counselor, from Ghana to the U.S.)

Darko will talk about how he found counseling or how counseling found him. What is education? What will it mean to me, my family, my community, society at large? Available via Zoom at https://psu.zoom.us/j/97752444295.

Thursday, Nov. 12 from noon to 1 p.m.

Chelsea Burket (environmental studies, German, study abroad in Berlin)

Burket once worked for a national consulting firm in Pittsburgh helping to strengthen local economies and the organizations that support them but is now embarking on a new venture: owning her own ice-cream shop. Available via Zoom at https://psu.zoom.us/j/97174512901.

Jessica Molina (engineering and arts, theater tech, cross-disciplinary thinker and doer)

Friday, Dec. 8 from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m.

Jennie Rothenberg Gritz (English, senior editor at the Smithsonian Magazine)
