In recognition of National Career Development Month in November, the Penn State Alumni Association is encouraging any Penn State graduate looking for their next opportunity to explore the tools and assistance provided by Alumni Career Services.

“Many Penn Staters have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and are looking for their next opportunity or seeking a change,” said Paul Clifford, CEO of the Penn State Alumni Association. “Whatever their situation, whatever their profession, the Alumni Career Services team can help them assess their situation, put their best foot forward, and take the next step in their careers.”

The Alumni Career Services team provides alumni with objective guidance and feedback, career education, and a variety of programs to hone their job-seeking skills. Penn State alumni can get started with Alumni Career Services by visiting alumni.psu.edu/career.

Resources available through the site include LionLink, an online networking tool similar to LinkedIn, where Penn Staters can connect and share information related to careers and professional development, and Nittany Lion Careers, a unified recruiting platform for all alumni, students and employers.

At noon EST Nov. 4 , the office will hold a free webinar, Alumni Career Services: Who and What We Are. This overview will showcase the resources accessible through Alumni Career Services and give participants insight into how Alumni Career Services can help with everything from a simple career adjustment to a complete career restructuring.

That webinar is just one of the online events Alumni Career Services will offer during National Career Development month, all of which are open to all Penn State alumni. Other opportunities include:

  • Writing a Strong Resume: Avoiding the Resume "Black Hole" at noon EST Wednesday, Nov. 11. This webinar will review strategies for writing a strong resume and tips for standing out in the application tracking systems employers use to help identify applicants to interview.

  • LinkedIn for Job Seekers at noon EST Wednesday, Nov. 18. This webinar provides tips and strategies for using LinkedIn for your job search, with a focus on building a strong profile, connecting, and messaging etiquette.

  • Networking for Introverts at noon EST Wednesday, Nov. 25. Building a strong network is still important for professional development, even for introverts and shy people. This webinar will provide networking tips that can be easily applied, and participants may even add a few people to their networks during the webinar.

Alumni Career Services provides services to all Penn State alumni, but Penn State Alumni Association members have access to additional offerings, including professional document reviews, one-on-one career coaching, and mock interviews.

The Penn State Alumni Association connects alumni to the University and to each other; provides valuable benefits to members; and supports the University’s mission of teaching, research and service. For more information about becoming a member of the association visit alumni.psu.edu/join.
