HUB-Robeson Galleries announce online and virtual events in October

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The year 2020 has been a year of both uncertainty and cancellations, and, while we have all had to change our plans this year, we have not stopped learning, growing and experiencing new things throughout these times. All events are free for all, always.

CARE. not convenience. is available for viewing in the HUB Gallery through Nov. 20 and online through January 2021. The exhibition, created by Jae Won Lee & Kelly Salchow MacArthur, was built entirely with salvaged plastic and sheds light on society’s dependence and careless overuse, as well as, thoughtless disposal of plastic. The primary material used for work creation was found and collected plastic bags. The extensive exploration of this petroleum-based material has led to methods of fusing sheets of plastic with heat, and making art forms with functional design capabilities (such as wearable art and hanging space dividers) and attention to minimizing waste in processes of production. Visit the Gallery in person or view the exhibition online.

"Human Expectations," an exhibition of four artists working throughout the U.S., is available for viewing both in the HUB-Robeson Center and online through Jan. 31, 2021. This multi-media exhibition utilizes ceramic, neon, and glass to approach the form of the human head as a map or apparition, expressing systems of knowing, disruption, and social difference.

Working from their interests, stories, and origins the artists consider the limitations and possibilities of human expectations – their ignorance, perceptual limitations, and potentially their magic. These deeply emotional pieces can be found in display cases throughout the HUB-Robeson Center at Penn State University Park or online
