Annual Security Reports deadline extended

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The U.S. Department of Education has extended the deadline for universities and colleges to release their Annual Security Reports to Dec. 31, 2020, therefore this year Penn State will be releasing its reports for 24 campuses later than usual.

Typically, Oct. 1 is the deadline for such reports to be released to the public. However, due to the challenges higher education institutions are facing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Education extended the deadline. Therefore, the Penn State community can expect the release of the annual reports later this year.

“Penn State is unique compared to most other higher education institutions in that each year we create 23 separate Annual Security Reports with information specific to 24 locations (Great Valley and Navy Yard are combined into one report). We appreciate the Department of Education recognizing that the higher education community is facing unprecedented times. The deadline extension, which many institutions are taking advantage of, allows us to finalize these important documents that are filled with data and safety tips, along with useful tools and resources,” said Charlie Noffsinger, associate vice president for University Police and Public Safety.

Once finalized the 2020 reports, which will include data from 2019, will be available at police.psu.edu.

Penn State publishes the Annual Security Reports, titled “Policies, Safety, & U,” which include crime statistics for the previous three years, campus security policies, and crime prevention and safety awareness programs.

For those campuses that have on-campus student housing, the Annual Fire Safety Report is included in the Annual Security Report. The Annual Fire Safety Report includes fire statistics from the previous three years and important information about fire safety policies and procedures.

The reports comply with the federal reporting requirements of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
