A current student wrote, “I never expected a resident to be as willing or capable as Dr. Elfiky was to teach a group of medical students. She took us under her wing immediately, was receptive to our questions and always asked what we wanted to learn or practice. She gave us feedback when appropriate, but the greatest thing was that she took the time out of her time with patients or time in the resident room to teach us. She showed us imaging, talked about localizations, complications, etc. I wish I would have had more time with her, but within only a few short days, she taught me a great deal about neuro and strokes.”

Elfiky has an interest in pursuing a career in vascular neurology. She enjoys rock climbing, hiking, cooking, traveling and spending time with her puppy in her spare time.

Penn State College of Medicine’s Office for a Respectful Learning Environment recognizes exceptional faculty, residents and fellows with the monthly “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” program. Each month, one faculty member and one resident/fellow are highlighted for their contributions. College of Medicine students are invited to submit narratives about faculty members, residents, nurses or any other educators who challenge them and provide an exceptional learning experience.

The Office for a Respectful Learning Environment fosters an educational community at Penn State College of Medicine in which all learners and educators feel supported, challenged, valued and respected. It serves all learners at the College of Medicine: medical students, graduate students, physician assistant students, residents and fellows.
