Penn State Board of Trustees' agriculture delegate elections to move forward

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The election of agricultural interest trustees for the Penn State Board of Trustees is set to proceed on Sept. 30.

The election was slated to occur earlier this spring, but was deferred in April.

Unlike the election of alumni trustees, which is conducted in a separate process electronically, the voting for agricultural interest trustees involved in-person caucusing and voting. Certified agricultural organizations in each county across the state convene to elect three delegates who, in turn, vote for the agricultural interest trustees.

Due to Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf’s stay-at-home order, counties were not able to caucus in person for delegates.

Due to current safety guidelines prohibiting large gatherings, caucusing for this election will occur via telephone conferencing, and the final election will be held via mail-in ballot.

County caucusing will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Sept. 30.

Not all counties are required to caucus. Delegates from counties in which a caucus is necessary will be contacted individually.

Mail-in ballots with instructions will be sent via UPS on Oct. 1 to the three delegates representing the interests of their county. Only the final three delegates for the county will be mailed instructions and ballots. Ballots should be postmarked no later than Oct. 28, and must be received by Nov. 2 to be valid.
