New Faculty Orientation to begin with half-day Zoom webinar Aug. 20

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — New Faculty Orientation (NFO) for those tenure-line and non-tenure line faculty who are new to Penn State begins with a half-day Zoom webinar on Thursday, Aug. 20, and will feature remarks from President Eric J. Barron and Provost Nicholas Jones.

NFO, organized by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, introduces new faculty to a wide range of topics and resources, providing knowledge and information that will help them navigate and understand various aspects of the University. This year, there will be a special session on “Teaching in the COVID Era,” featuring various faculty and administrators and led by Renata Engel, vice provost for online education, and Yvonne Gaudelius, associate vice president and senior associate dean for undergraduate education.

The new faculty event that begins at 1 p.m. and runs to 5 p.m. also will feature a presentation from Senior Vice President for Research Lora Weiss about research and development at Penn State; and a session on promotion and tenure and annual reviews, with Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Kathy Bieschke.

In addition to the half-day session, additional sessions designed to orient faculty to key resources across the University will take place throughout the semester.
