UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — For more than 80 years, the Penn State Alumni Association has covered the football team with its one-of-a-kind perspective through The Football Letter.

Now, the historic publication begins a new era, with the launching of The Football Letter Live virtual show in early September. This online expansion is to help fill the void without a fall sports season and to rally alumni and fans around Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics.

The inaugural show will broadcast 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, with weekly shows to follow on the same day and time until Nov. 5.

Hosted by Alumni Association CEO Paul Clifford, the weekly show will feature regular appearances from longtime editor of The Football Letter, John Black, with the duo sharing a preview of what fans can expect to see in that week’s edition of The Football Letter and discussing various areas of impact for the Alumni Association.

Even with the cancellation of fall sports in the Big Ten Conference, the Alumni Association will continue to send out via email The Football Letter, created by Ridge Riley in 1938 as a way to ensure alumni stay connected to the football program and the University.

“Throughout our 150 years of service to Penn State, supporting Intercollegiate Athletics and our student-athletes has been an important part of Alumni Association programming,” Clifford said. “With the postponement of the fall sports season, we will continue to gather as a community in virtual formats to celebrate this important component of the Penn State experience.”

Penn State alumni and fans can watch each week’s show for free, with sign up available soon. Each show will also be live streamed on the Alumni Association’s Facebook page.

Delivered via email during the football season as a member benefit, The Football Letter delivers analysis, photos, and Alumni Association news throughout the fall. Additionally, fans can stay updated throughout the year by subscribing to The Football Letter blog, available to everyone.
